Waterproof or Water-Resistant
There is a slight difference between these two terms. Leather, being naturally water-resistant can protect itself from a tiny amount of showers. However, waterproof means something that has been treated to be submerged in water without being damaged. Waterproof leather can only remain safe and undamaged for a short period of time. After a while, water will cause the leather to lose essential moisture and dehydrate. The wonderfully smooth and soft texture would be lost in that case.
Treat your jacket with wax and conditioner
No doubt that untreated leather feels good and natural but it is more likely to get damaged by water or extreme cold. If the drop of water lands on your jacket, without any wax protection, the water will penetrate straight into the leather. Absorption of water may cause the leather to lose its texture and the skin will start to tear apart. So in order to avoid such misfortune, get a waxed finish leather jacket.
Which leather is the most water-resistant?

Water-proofing products
After years of wearing a leather jacket, it’s better to give it a new layer of waterproofing via waxing or conditioning. The most famous waterproofing products are Ducks wax and Nikwax. These products won’t make your jacket 100% waterproof but will make it survive in showers for a while. No matter what, just be gentle with your jacket and it will serve you well.
